Abstract/Summary

This report details the working methods and results of an archaeological evaluation on land at White Lodge Farm, Higham Road, Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire by Pre-Construct Archaeology. The work was commissioned by the client Grace Homes as part of a planning application (KET/2012/0170) and trial trenching was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology on the 28th October 2013. Two 20 x 1.8m, two 15 X 1.8m and two 10 x 1.8m trenches were machine excavated. A single archaeological feature, a pit, approximately 1m in diameter and 0.37m deep was discovered in a trench located in the western area of investigation. The pit contained three conjoining sherds of pottery dating to the Romano-British period. Two residual worked pieces of flint were also recovered from the pit dating to the Mesolithic/early Neolithic period. No further archaeological features were exposed. Within the central and eastern portion of the evaluation area, trenching revealed considerable disturbance due to open cast quarrying.
