Full Description

{1} Test Pit 11 contained soil layers dated to the Roman period. Above the natural was a clay layer c.0.4m thick which contained fragments of Roman plaster, suggesting that it may relate to demolition. Above this were two layers of loam, the uppermost of which produced a fragment of Roman carved stone. Also within this layer was an area of limestone rubble which may have derived from the demolition of a building.
