Full Description

{1} Late medieval activity dating to the C14th and C16th was concentrated at the south(-western) corner of the site, adjacent to the trackway. There were two parallel ditches, aligned north-west to south-east and perpendicular to the trackway, although no relationship was established between them. Only the southernmost ditch contained pottery. It was 1.68m wide x 0.45m deep with steep edges and a flat base. In the centre of the trench were the remains of a dry-stone wall 0.43m wide x 0.48m high. The wall sat on the base of the ditch and was constructed of roughly coursed limestone and sandstone. Both wall and ditch were truncated by a further (later) ditch running from the south-west, but while the ditch continued beyond to the north the wall did not indicating that it originally finished near this point. Both parallel ditches and the wall probably functioned as property boundaries.
