Full Description

{1} Blocks 1 and 2 were positioned over areas of background magnetic disturbance and a dense surface scatter of tap slag. Block 2 shows clusters of magnetic disturbance indicating the presence of thermoremanent or ferrous material. It is probable that these anomalies are concentrations of slag although the presence of small smelting furnaces is not discounted. Areas of magnetic enhancement are also present although it is unclear whether these represent cut and infilled archaeological features, more deeply buried slag or natural drainage features.
