Building record 36/6/2 - Paradise Farm Barn

A stone barn and stable originating in the late 17th or early 18th century, with 19th and 20th century additions and alterations

{1}The barn at Paradise Farm is a stone, single storey barn with a modern open bay mono roof roof structure on the west end of the building. The interior of the building can be split into three areas: the barn, the stable and the open bay mono roof structure.

The first phase of construction is the initial stone building. This contains tie-beams on the trusses with shallow chamfers and stops. This type of chamfer occurs on beams of the 17th century and early 18th century, although it could be slightly later. The second phase of construction is the addition of the mono roof structure at the west end of the stone building. A structure is shown here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. During this phase several repairs or minor alterations were carried out to the barn including blocking up the north opening. This phase of work is dated to the mid 19th century. The final phase of building is of modern date and comprises replacement of the roof and mono roof structure.
