Full Description

{1} Archaeological trial trench excavation in 2013 identified a single posthole that contained early Iron Age pottery.

{2} Excavation was undertaken in 2014. There was a low amount of Iron Age activity on site, consisting of two small pits and three large shallow pits in Area 2, and two large pits and a single segmented gully in Area 1. Although this indicates a presence in the surrounding area during this period, the sparse nature of the remains indicates a low level of activity. The small amount of evidence produced from the three larger pits in Area 2, as well as their shallow and irregular profiles, may indicate these as natural hollows, with residual finds from the area working their way into the fills. A small quantity of abraded, poorly preserved Iron Age pottery was recovered. It was probably middle Iron Age in date. The charred plant assemblage was very sparse.
