Full Description
{1} The magnetometry survey detected anomalies relating to a probable sub-rectangular ditched enclosure. The enclosure is represented by a rectangular arrangement of positive linear anomalies located alongside the north-eastern edge of the field. It measures approximately 70m long by 15m wide, with its sides bowing out in the middle and tapering slightly towards the ends. The central part of the enclosure was not detected, obscured by a very broad positive linear anomaly, likely to be geological in origin, possibly a palaeochannel.
Within the southern end of the enclosure, a set of weakly positive anomalies suggest the presence of a rectangular gully or a foundation slot for a timber structure.
While the enclosure is undated, its form is more elongated and narrow than a typical Roman or Iron Age enclosure and it bears closer comparison with Neolithic ‘long enclosures’ such as the one found near the River Nene at West Cotton.
