Building record 755/0/26 - Cruikelty, 51 High Street

A two phase building existed on this site. One range parallel to the street with two rooms in line, and a newer cross wing which reached to the roadside. Little original material remains in situ.

{1} Analysis.

These were stone buildings with thatched roofs. The cross-wing has been demolished. Photographs of the rear elevation show only three windows though the fron elevation had more, as today. The roof of the cross-wing appears to have been of the 18th century with butt purlins and collared trusses. Two spine beams with medium chamfers but no end-stops showing remain in the house. One has been moved upward to provide greater headroom in the hall. Neither show any decorative end-stops. Photographic evidence appears to show a splat baluster staircase which suggests a date in the 17th or early 18th century.
