Full Description

{1} Analysis, plan and photographs.

Extensively altered in successive phases, the building appears today as partially rendered and uniformly painted, slate-roofed dwelling house, set back from the road, in with a very close physical relationship with the non-conformist chapel on the adjacent plot. The plot boundary runs with the southern wall of the building. No 65 High Street and its garden, is situated immediately in front of this building facing the road.
The core of the building is a two-bay structure which was originally built in stone. The gable end wall to the south shows a level wall of stone, one storey high, with a steeply pitched red brick gable rising from it which would probably have supported a thatched roof. There are two potential roof-lines visible in the wall. The bricks which are of the 17th or early 18th century, wrap around the stone wall and appear to imply that the stone rear wall would have been brick at that time.
Internally , a spine beam to the northern end has been re-set, facilitating the introduction of a stairway. It is medium chamfered and has ogee stops partially buried in the wall plaster. A simialr beam to the south is obscured at its ends. A previous owner describes a hearth on this wall and an external staircase.
