Full Description

{1} Analysis & photographs.

On the street front, Mulberry Cottage shows two phases of building. To the south, a building of the 19th century, to the north, an 18th century brick building with brick dressings to the lower windows, a plat band and moulded bricks at the eaves. A plaque, which may have shown a date, lies between the two upper windows. The northern, two-bay building predates the rest of the house and is built of stone fronted in brick to the eastern and northern faces. Other walls are now internal.

The building measures 6.5m by 3.7m internally and the walls are 500mm. There is a cooking hearth at the southern end and the firebeam is chamfered with ogee stops. Some rebuilding has occurred associated with fireplace; part of the enclosing wall has been rebuilt in brick and the back of the fire has been patched in with facing stone. An alcove in the eastern corner is simialr to others found in the village associated with bread ovens which have dismantled. A central door is now a window. The spine beam is chamfered and has ogee stops. It has a tabled scarf joint to the north of the original front door.
