Full Description

{1} Trial trench excavation around Barby Castle found evidence to the east of the mound of features, including ditches, pits, gullies and postholes dating the early Roman period, which were in many instances below the earthworks associated with the castle. It was apparent that buried horizons including a possible topsoil, contemporary with or post-dating the Roman levels, were best preserved under the earthworks in the south-east part of the site.
