Monument record 2517/0/2 - Iron age enclosure, east of Nicholas Road

Summary
Two undated gullies, one curvilinear and one linear, were identified in a single trench. Later excavations revealed activity that dates to the mid-late Iron Age period. This is in the form of a sub rectangular enclosure, pit, post hole and ditch. There was also evidence for medieval/post medival activity.

Full Description
{1} Two gullies were recorded in Trench 1 approximately 10 metres apart: the linear gully to the west of the trench and the curvilinear gully on the east side
{3} Excavations found activity dating from the middle Iron Age to the Late Iron Age. This was in the form of a sub rectangular enclosure, ditch, pits and posthole. These features yielded a small quantity of Iron Age pottery. Medieval/Post medieval activity was present on the site in the form of linears. Three sherds of 12th century pottery were recovered from these features.
