Full Description

{1} A level II building recording survey was carried out prior to refurbishment of a single storey brick building currently used as a store. Built prior to 1885, the building originally had three large windows in the north-eastern elevation. The presence of the windows, which would have provided good natural light, indicates that the building was likely used as a workshop for light industrial processes. The windows were subsequently blocked up.
By the late 1920s to 1930s the building was in use as a confectionary works and contained two heating coppers, a rolling slab and a wrapping machine, although now none of this equipment remains. The sweets were stored in an ancillary building which has been demolished. The building was marked as a 'Sweet Factory' as late as 1968. More recently it was used as a brush factory.
