Full Description

{1} Archaeological watching brief undertaken in 2001 as part of the wider archaeological investigations at Bozeat Quarry identified an urned cremation. The pottery vessel had been inverted within the centre of a small circular pit. The vessel may have already been broken when it was used, as there was no rim. The base is presumed to have been removed by ploughing. Cremated bone was found both inside the vessel and in the surrounding pit fill. As far as could be determined the remains were derived from a single adult individual of indeterminate sex.
