Full Description
{1} Silverstone Ware was produced from a kiln located in or adjacent to 32 West End, where several hundred sherds of pottery were recovered from a waster heap. The kiln appears have been active in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. It may be the case that the kiln was set up with the specific intention of supplying pottery to the hunting lodge [thought to be located to the east near the church]. Certainly, Silverstone Ware appears to have had only a local market and fails to appear even in neighbouring Whittlebury.
