Full Description

{1} Two possible cremations were uncovered in Trench 36. Both contained large amount of charcoal and cremated bone fragments and one contained a sherd of possible pottery. These were not excavated at this stage. It is likely that the features are of Prehistoric or Roman date. The pottery sherd may have been part of an urn or pot and was therefore left in-situ.

{2} - This monument encompasses area 1 of the Roade Bypass Scheme mitigation undertaken in 2023. The suspected cremation burials from the trial trench evaluation in 2018 were re-identified and confimed during this excavation. Cremations were positioned almost to the centre of area 1 and were deposited with intercutting pits. Unurned cremated bone was recovered from the cremations.
