Full Description

{1} A Level II building survey was undertaken of Cockley Farm Barns prior to conversion into residential use in 2016. The group of field barns are arranged in a U-shaped courtyard plan and comprise a threshing barn, stable, shelter shed and general barn. A further separate shelter shed (latterly used as an implement shed) and demolished cart shed were also recorded. The buildings are largely constructed of limestone, much of it probably quarried nearby (historic maps show a quarry immediately to the west). The threshing barn has a roof of Welsh slate, while the two shelter sheds and stable have corrugated iron roofs. The general barn was ruinous at the time of the survey. The steep pitch of the stable roof, along with a notable shadow on the adjoining threshing barn elevation, suggests that the stable was originally thatched. Photos and plans;
