Full Description

{1} Excavated in 2002-3 as part of the larger Roman settlement investigation. Situated in the far western part of the site on the upper slope of the Nene Valley overlooking the river, cremated human remains were found interred in an inverted Collared Urn. The urn sat on a ledge within an oval pit, with a further deposit of cremated bone and charcoal filling the base of the larger and deeper pit. The form and decoration of the early Bronze Age Collared Urnsuggest a date range of roughly the 19th to 18th centuries cal BC. The bone fragments within the pot and within the surrounding deposit represent the partial remains of at least two adult individuals. No contemporary features were identified close by.
