Full Description

{1} A two-storey pair behind No. 31, the ground floor of limestone and the upper of ironstone, pantiled roofs, mid 19th-century. Class 4c plans;

{3} A level 2 historic building recording and archaeological monitoring was undertaken at the rear of 31 Main Street. The cottage appears to be of late 18th century to early 19th century date. It has been constructed using course limestones and bricks and at the time of recording, the cottage had a roof in poor condition consisting of brick roof tiles. The cottage had steep gables on the north and south sides. The original core building consisted of a two storey 18m x 13m large rectangular structure with an internal brick wall seperating the cottage into two flats. The floor in both flats consisted of undecorated 19th century brick tiles and each flat had a fireplace that are both of a 19th century origin. The archaeological monitoring, that removed the first floor of the cottage, found no finds or feature of archaeological interest.
