Full Description

{1} Archaeological geophysical survey identified a small complex of probable Iron Age or Roman enclosures. The site comprises two sub-rectangular enclosures, a much smaller sub-circular enclosure and some linear ditches. The enclosures cover a combined area of c0.5ha and their overall appearance is very typical of a small farmstead of Iron Age or Roman date. The smaller enclosure, 12m in diameter, is probably a roundhouse drip gully with possible entrances to the east and west.

{3] Trial trench excavation in 2018 confirmed that the settlement originated in the early Iron Age and was abandoned in the late Iron Age. It comprised two rectilinear enclosures, the larger of the two displaying interna subdivisions including a number of pits and postholes. A single ring ditch lay to the east side of the enclosures, possibly representing the site of a probable round house. It appears to have been an isolated settlement.
