Full Description

{1} Level II building recording was undertaken of a stable prior to alteration. The stable comprises approximately one-sixth of the southern building range of what was formerly a courtyard farm. To its west is a threshing floor barn, which was built integrally with the stable. It was built of stone, originally with a cruck roof, replaced in the mid 19th century with a roof of tie beam truss and purlin type. The early phase probably dated to the early to mid 18th century. It was suitable for five horses with four stalls, one of them double. Due to the height of a hayloft, two of these animals were probably ponies used to pull the farmer’s trap. The other three might have been waggon or plough horses.
