Monument record 3203 - Probable Iron Age/Roman settlement, south of Newlands Farm
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
An elongated D-shaped ditched enclosure attached to a fragmentary possible rectilinear enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Located in a field about 295 metres SSE of Newlands Farm, the enclosure ditch is up to 2 metres wide, being straight on its NW facing side and curvilinear to the SE, enclosing an area about 28 x 36 metres at its widest points. Attached to the NW facing side are linear ditches that suggest at least one further rectilinear enclosure, but these are incomplete. Some 80 metres to the east are linear and curvilinear ditch fragments extending from the field boundary that may be associated with the enclosure.

Full Description
{1} An enclosure and several fragmentary linear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in June 2011 in the course of the annual English Heritage reconnaissance programme. The enclosure is circa 40-50m long, and around 25m wide, with one straight side, and two that curve irregularly, meeting at a point. Some linear fragments can be seen extending from the straight side, while others can be seen elsewhere in the field.
{1a} As described at [1} above, an elongated D-shaped ditched enclosure attached to a fragmentary possible rectilinear enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and were mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Located in a field about 295 metres SSE of Newlands Farm and centred at SP 92218 59481, the enclosure ditch is up to 2 metres wide, being straight on its NW facing side and curvilinear to the SE, enclosing an area about 28 x 36 metres at its widest points. Attached to the NW facing side are linear ditches that suggest at least one further rectilinear enclosure, but these are incomplete. Some 80 metres to the east are linear and curvilinear ditch fragments extending from the field boundary that may be associated with the enclosure.
