Full Description

{1} Archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 2005 for a Time Team production with the aim of defining the form and date of the medieval deserted settlement of Glendon. A high-status 2nd-3rd century AD Roman cremation burial was excavated as part of the evaluation. The burial comprised a combined unurned and urned deposit, principally unurned with the c40% of the bone contained in a ceramic vessel. The remains of three glass vessels had been deposited as grave goods. Charred plant remains included a possible grain of garden pea, several fragments of hazelnut and three fruits of fig. No further features of Romano-British date were conclusively identified.
