Summary

A trial trench excavated to the rear of Gold Street in 2017 identified the foundations of a stone wall on the same alignment as The Pyghtle.

Full Description

{1} A single trial trench was excavated on land to the rear of 77 Gold Street in 2017. The earliest feature identified on the site was part of a wall, from which stone was robbed possibly in the Medieval or post-medieval period. In addition, pottery sherds from the above original topsoil was recovered dating to the 19th-20th Century. Above this was a construction demolition or levelling layer and the modern topsoil with no further archaeology.
