Full Description

{1} Cropmarks of a large rectangular ditched enclosure of later prehistoric or Roman date visible on aerial photographs at SP 7598 3769. The enclosure site coincides with the location of finds associated with a Roman building (Monument number1171/0/1). It is possible that the enclosure is associated with the building. The enclosure measures approximately 60m x 100m and may have an entrance in the SE end.

{2-4} A subrectangular enclosure of Iron Age/Romano British date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of Historic England’s North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project. Located approximately 400m west of Mountmill Farm, Wicke, Northamptonshire, and centred at SP 475965 237729. The subrectangular enclosure is 112x87m with further cropmarks that may form internal subdivisions and with subcircular maculae outside the enclosure. These cropmarks may continue into the field on the north side of the road to Mountmill Farm but they might be geological or from former land use/boundaries as they are straighter and parallel to the existing and former field boundaries shown on Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey map. The southern edge of the enclosure is visible as a cropmark on the 2007 aerial photograph but it is not as clear as in 2011; this may be due to crop conditions or time of ripening of the crop.
