Monument record 8824/1 - Probable Iron Age/Roman settlement, south of Eydonhill

Enclosures, trackways and boundaries of probable Iron Age/Roman date are visible as cropmarks on air photographs taken on 20th June 2011. A group of at least four rectangular enclosures lie on a north-east south-west alignment and several fragmentary ditched boundaries are associated with them. A group of larger enclosures, again with associated boundaries, is visible to the south-east on a different alignment. This may indicate at least two phases at the site. A sinuous double-ditched trackway can also be seen to the south. The form and pattern of these features is similar to Iron Age/Roman open settlements elsewhaer in Northamptonshire.

A group of at least four rectangular enclosures are centred at approximately SP 5363 5113. They lie on a north-east south-west alignment and measure around 10m by 20m. Several fragmentary ditched boundaries are also associated with them. A group of larger enclosures, again with associated boundaries, is visible to the south-east on a different alignment. This may indicate at least two phases at the site. A sinuous double-ditched trackway can also be seen to the south. The form and pattern of these features is similar to Iron Age/Roman open settlements elsewhere in Northamptonshire {2}.
