Full Description
{1} Nos.1-3 Bucknills Lane, also known as The Myrtles was formerly a pair of late 18th or early 19th century cottages, now one dwelling. The cottage is representative of village vernacular, built in regular coursed ironstone with a slate roof. On the 1883 Ordnance Survey map it is shown with the still existing Pikes Lane to the west of the plot. The building is two storeys tall with four bays, the windows are largely timber eight-over-eight sliding sash, with those to the right hand side of the principal elevation being multi-light timber casement, and there is a four panel door. Both the
windows and the doorway have timber lintels, and there is some cornice decoration at the eaves. It has brick stacks at the apex of the roof. The building has a liminal position to the west in relation to what is now the “historic core” It forms a grouping with Mitchells Lodge, and the grade II listed Griffin Cottage and Churchside.
