Full Description

{1} Three trial trenches were excavated as part of planning proposals for a new dwelling. In Trench 1, there was a small pit which contained late Saxon pottery. The pit was capped with a complete rotary quern stone. A shallow ditch contained a single sherd of undiagnostic ceramic tile (possibly medieval). Three pits were identified in the same trench, two contained articulated animal burials. Although all three were undated one may have truncated a post-medieval ditch.
