Abstract/Summary

John Moore Heritage Services carried out an evaluation on land to the west of Whitfield Road, Radstone, Northamptonshire, NN13 5PZ. The archaeological excavation in Trench 1 identified a pit in the west of the site which contained fragments of late Saxon pottery and which was capped by a quern stone. In the centre of the trench, a shallow ditch of indeterminate date was identified orientated northeast to southwest. The ditch contained an undiagnostic ceramic tile fragment. Three further pits were identified which contained sheep bones. Two of the pits contained articulated remains. A further cut feature identified as a pit or ditch terminus contained fragments of post-medieval pottery. In the east of the site, in Trenches 2 and 3, two cut features were identified; a pit/ditch containing 19th century and modern material, and a ditch containing modern material including the top of a drinks can.
