Monument record 8129/1 - Probable early-middle Iron Age settlement, east of The Poplars

Archaeological investigation identified a small sub-square enclosure and ditch. A large assemblage of early and middle Iron Age pottery was recovered from the ditch.

{2} Trial trench excavation identified the western, eastern and southern arms of a small sub-square enclosure which was found during an earlier geophysical survey. A small quantity of middle Iron Age pottery was recovered from the ditch fills as well as from a small pit in the interior of the enclosure. To the south of the enclosure a ditch was found that had not been identified during the geophysical survey. A large amount of Iron Age pottery was recovered from the ditch comprising a small number of early Iron Age sherds and a large number of middle Iron Age sherds.
