Monument record 9881/2 - Possible Iron Age/Roman settlement, north-east of Higham Park

A possible Iron Age and/or Roman ditched enclosure is recorded as cropmarks on EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken in July 2011. The enclosure is defined by sinuous ditches around a roughly triangular area measuring about 50 metres by 50. The site probably indicates settlement and may be linked to other enclosures and land division to the north-west (Monument 1589691) and north-east (Monument 1589687).

{1-2} A possible Iron Age and/or Roman ditched enclosure is recorded as cropmarks on EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken in July 2011. The enclosure is defined by sinuous ditches around a roughly triangular area measuring about 50 metres by 50 metres. It is centred at SP 9967 6430.

The site probably indicates settlement and may be linked to other enclosures and land division to the north-west (Monument 1589691) and north-east (Monument 1589687).

{1a} A sub-triangular ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Located in a field about 1174 metres SE of the sewage pumping station off Avenue Road and centred at SP 99683 64318, the ditch is up to 4 metres wide. The sinuous SW facing side is about 36.5 metres NW-SE, the linear NW facing side is about 31 metres SW-NE and the curvilinear E facing side is about 55 metres long.
