Full Description

{1} Limited archaeological investigation was undertaken during the excavation of foundations for a garage to the rear of 1 High Street. A dump of material as well as the possible remains of a burnt structure were identified. Initial analysis of half of the pottery recovered confirms the presence of wasters of jars, bowls and strip-decorated glazed and stamped jugs, along with a small number of glazed and crested ridge tiles, several facemask sherds, straight pulled pipkin handles and one fish dish. Most of the pottery is Stanion ware with the green glaze and oolitic limestone tempering, with a small amount with a white fabric.
