Full Description

{1} Three trial trenches were excavated on land at Castilian Chambers. A single medieval pit was identified in Trench 1 contained pottery dating to the 12th-14th centuries and animal bone. A large feature in Trench 2 was likely to be a quarry pit similar to those found elsewhere in this part of town. It was dated to the 17th century, but contained redeposited medieval pottery. The features were sealed by a thick deposit, probably representing a former garden soil.
