Full Description

{1} Trial trench excavation at the Red Lion Pub identified a number of pits and ditches dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. The pits may have been rubbish pits associated with an inn since a number of drinking vessels of that period were found in the fills. In 1720, Fosters Booth was described by
John Bridges as “a fair street of inns”.
