Please read our .

Summary

Geophysical survey undertaken in 2020 identified various anomalies that could be of archaeological origin. Subsequent archaeological evaluation identified a small group of features, including a number of ditches and a posthole. Two of the ditches may have formed a trackway aligned northwest to southeast. A small amount of late Neolithic/early Bronze Age pottery was recovered, including sherds from two Beaker vessels.

Full Description

{1} Geophysical survey identified several anomalies that could be of archaeological origin. Anomalies that could be ditches and a potential trackway were found in the north and west of the survey. There are two rectangular anomalies in the central western part of the site and could be saxon in origin. Nearby, there is a set of possible enclosures.

{2} Trial trench evaluation identified a group of features in Trench 4 including a number of ditches and gullies aligned north-west to south-east and a posthole. Two of the linear features corresponded with geophysical anomalies forming a possible trackway. The ditches and gullies contained a small assemblage of late Neolithic-early Bronze Age pottery. Other undated linear features corresponded with geophysical anomalies suggesting another trackway running roughly NE-SW.
