Summary

Contiguous rectilinear ditched enclosures of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible on aerial photographs. Located in a field immediately S of the Railway Inn, the main visible feature is a rectangular ditch up to 3 metres wide that encloses an area about 36 x 24 metres. Conjoined on the W side is a narrow rectilinear enclosure and on the S side a fragmentary rectilinear ditched with the S facing side open.

Full Description

{1} Contiguous rectilinear ditched enclosures of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible on aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Located in a field immediately S of the Railway Inn and centred at TL 01922 73533, the main visible feature is a rectangular ditch up to 3 metres wide that encloses an area about 36 x 24 metres. Conjoined on the W side is a narrow rectilinear enclosure about 20 x 3 metres. Conjoined on the S side is a fragmentary rectilinear ditched enclosure 30 x 22 metres, with the S facing side open.
