Full Description

{1} Archaeological trial trench excavation and subsequent 'strip, map and sample' excavation was undertaken ahead of development. The earliest features were a cluster of four intercutting pits associated with an assemblage of struck flint and hand-made pottery consistent with a middle Neolithic date. Further pits in this area contained hand-made pottery of an undiagnostic form and were assigned a broader Neolithic to early Bronze Age date.
The first significant phase of activity dated to the middle to late Iron Age and comprised a series of narrow ditches aligned north-east to south-west that form a wider coaxial ditch system of land division; probably a series of pastoral livestock plots. Pits and postholes also dated to this phase.
