Full Description
{1} Owner from 1867 Thomas Walters and from 1873 Newbridge Iron Ore Co. until closure sometime prior to 1901. These quarries consist of two seperate areas of quarrying one south of the brook between the Midland railway line and Woodford village with a tramway connection to the railway east of Twywell station. The other quarry was to the north of the Kettering to Thrapston road with a tramway passing under the road and then over the railway to seperate siding. There seems to be no physical connection with the tramways. Which quarrying area opened first is uncertain but the southern quarries were more extensive and the fact of the Midland railway siding being on that side of the line suggests that this was the earlier quarry. Very little information has survived concerning Newbridge Quarries horse haulage could be presumed for the southern quarries but for the northern ones some kind of mechanical traction was required to haul the wagons of ore over the railway bridge to the sidings. Part of the northern quarry was later used by the Islip Iron Co's tramway for access to their Twywell Quarries.
