The Society bought the land around Manor Farm in 1899 on the southwest outskirts of Desborough and on the fringe of earlier quarries. No extraction of ore occurred before the end of 1905. The expansion to Thorpe Underwood occurred with the purchase of the estate of the late Miss M.Hall. Production at this site started in the Autumn of 1913. Purchase of the Harrington Estate occurred in 1914 (The whole village) The old Desborough quarry became unprofitable and was closed in the spring of 1917. but quarrying continued in the area known as Harrington Road. Quarrying continued for a number of years but there became less and less and with the decision to close Desborough B.R.Station the closure became necessary and although a hand to mouth existence occurred the quarries were closed down in August 1969.
