Monument record 1297/1/13 - WWII Bomb Stores Area, Harrington Airfield

Former bomb store site lying to the east of the main airfield. The site would have included high explosive (HE) stores, incendiary/pyrotechnic stores, a single track raodway and drive through fuzing points. Lidar imagery suggests that some of the earthwork mounds around the HE stores still survive.

{1-4} Former WWII bomb store site for the USAAF/RAF. The bomb storage area is visible on aerial photographs dating to 1944 and the access tracks are shown on the OS map of 1958 and on the 1965 map, 15 earth-bunded areas (HE bomb stores) are depicted. Lidar imagery indicates that most of the earth-bunded areas survive, although it is not clear whether any associated structures do.
