Full Description
{1} Owners Nassington Barrowden Mining Co.Ltd. The Rushton quarry site was purchased by the quarry company between the war years. It was an area of 1,000 acres between the Pipewell Hall to Rushton road, the A6003 to the north and east and the river Ise to the south. It was not developed immediately and in the end only a quarter of the area was opened up. Application to quarry was made in 1946 but operations did not start until 1952. It was initially thought that the output would by tramways to the railyards but lorries were used instead. Quarrying ceased on the final nationalisation of the steel industry in 1967 and the property and mineral rights were sold.
