Full Description

{1} A series of three gullies ran east-west across the site. From these features, fragments of struck flint were retreived that broadly date to the Bronze Age, a single fragment of Early Bronze Age pottery and a flint flake. The pot sherd which is part of a rusticated beaker could suggest that these gullies are on the periphery of a settlement or ceremonial landscape. A possible cremation pit was observed in the north westernmost quadrant of the site. This feature contained sherds of Early Bronze Age pottery that were indicative of beakers, along with a thumbnail scraper. A large quantity of charcoal was recovered from the sample. No bone was recovered from the sample but this could be due to poor preservation conditions. The feature is isolated and looks to have been disturbed by agricultural scarring. A few of the other pits share some similarities with the possible cremation as they contained burnt deposits. A lot of these were irregular in form and was unable to confirm an archaeological origin. Similarly, three features that could be post holes were noted. They contained patchy fills and provided no finds, which puts doubt on whether these are archaeological features.
