Full Description

{1} A historic building survey in 2022 recorded the Former Tivoli Cinema before it's demolition. The Tivoli Cinema opened on 13th July 1935 and closed on 27th August 1960. It has since served various functions, including a furniture warehouse, tyre and motor repair depot, tile warehouse, and sofa store. The building retains many of its external Art Deco features beneath modern cladding. The frontage includes original front steps, three front entrance doors with decorative surrounds, and a balcony area with decorative cast stone balustrade and metal framed Crittall windows. Significant alterations include the addition of a large vehicular access door after the cinema's closure in the 1960s when it was used as a removals and storage warehouse. In the 1980s, it was converted into a tyre and motor repair depot, which involved further modifications. Modern materials and suspended ceilings were inserted in the foyer during its use as a tile warehouse in the early 2000s.
