Full Description

1} A magnetometer survey of 10.4 hectares at Needles Hall Farm, Brackley Hatch, identified several magnetic anomalies of archaeological interest. A complex of magnetic responses was detected in the east of Area 1, consisting of ditches, pits, trends, and possible ring-ditches, interpreted as adjoining enclosures with internal subdivisions. A strong thermoremanent anomaly in the west of this complex may indicate a small oven or kiln. The anomaly morphology suggests features typical of late Prehistoric or Romano-British settlements. In Area 4, a weak sub-rectangular enclosure measuring 25m by 20m was tentatively mapped, with a possible entrance on the south-east side. Additional linear trends in Area 1 may represent field ditches.
