A road entering the north gate of the town and depicted on a map of 1632 may be the former route of the main road to Stamford.

Full Description
{1} The old Stamford Road also ran towards Sywell and may be the 'Siwell Waye' named in the 1537 terrier.
{2} In 1632, Broad Street was continued beyond the medieval defences by a road on the east side of North End to meet the present course of the Kettering Road on Northampton Heath. The present course of the Kettering Road from St Edmunds End presumably superseded this former route in the medieval period. The road from the north gate does not appear on later maps.
