Full Description

{1} Part of a possible settlement was only recorded by a geophysical survey. The extent of the settlement is probably revelatively small in area as the indistinct cropmarks extend less than c70m by c60m and these results tie in well with the geophysical survey which covered about half of the settlement. The settlement consisted of three or four enclosures of which three were conjoined. At the north-west side there was a probable sub-rectangular enclosure which measured c13m by 10m in size with an entranceway to the south-west. Directly to the south-east there was a curvilinear ditch which may have been part on an enclosure. To the west there was a sub-rectangular enclosure 15m by 12m in size with two entrances on its western side. To the south there was possibly a sub-rectangular enclosure which continued beyond the survey area. Within the possible enclosure was a curvilinear ditch which may have been a ring ditch. Settlement 7 seems to have respected/linked to the north-west to south-east aligned routeway recorded as part of the field system of Settlement 6 (above) and the former pit alignment. This may therefore suggest this settlement also dated to the middle to late Roman period.
