Summary

Extensive area of Iron Age and Roman settlement largely comprising late Bronze Age/early Iron Age pit alignments and later Iron Age and Roman farmsteads, much of which was subject to archaeological excavation prior to gravel extraction in the 1990s.

{5} Cropmarks; various enclosure; two parallel lines of pits (SP 885627 - St Joseph Aps

{6} Partly visible on RAF APs.

{7} Under crop, not perambulated. Mr Hall said he has found nothing here but the site is almost certainly associated with the adjacent IA and RB sites.

{8} Enclosures, Ditches, Ditched Trackway and Pit Alignments (centred SP 886628), on gravel at 45m. above OD. Air photographs show cropmarks of sub-rectangular enclosures covering an area of some 5 hectares. The most southerly of these are intersected by a ditched trackway andpit alignments, parallel and close together, and visible for 600m. from SP 88186241 to 88656262. From this (at SP 88506270) another pitalignment is visible, running S.E. for 100m. To SP 88676255.
