Building record 1160/0/236 - Possible shoemaker's workshop, Oakwood Road

Two storey, brick-built workshop located to the rear of 59 St Matthews Parade. Built between 1883 and 1899. It appears to have been raised from a single storey. There is a taking-in door on the second storey. Probably used as a shoemakers workshop.

{1, 2} OS mapping indicates that this workshop was probably contemporary with the house on St Matthews Parade and was constructed at some point between 1883 and 1899.

{3} Google Streetmap imagery shows that the building is built of brick with a pitched Welsh slate roof. The slight difference in brick colour and the use of bull-nose brick at a lower level but not upper level suggests that the height of the building may have been raised. The original entrance at the rear has been replaced with a modern garage door, but a wooden taking-in door survives above. Original Critall windows, two with a shallow arch, also survive.
