Building record 1160/0/619 - Public Convenience, South Bridge

Probably built in the early 20th century in stone. Ornate Diocletian windows. Disused.

{1} The public convenience with ornate diocletian windows and locally made iron bollards at the entrance to area of grassland also constitute features of note.

{2} A Level 2 Historic Building Record was undertaken of the former public conveniences on Cattlemarket Road, Northampton, in May 2026, ahead of restoration works. The survey found that the detached single-storey structure, of probable early 20th century date, is constructed of large masonry blocks with decorative Diocletian windows on the north and south elevations. Internally, it retains elements of its historic layout and fittings, including terracotta floor tiles, ceramic glazed wall finishes and later sanitary installations. Although no longer in use and affected by vandalism, fire damage and structural impacts, the building survives as a notable example of municipal sanitation infrastructure associated with the urban development of Northampton.
