Building record 1160/0/618 - 16 Lorne Road

Denbigh & Co, located at 16 Lorne Road, were listed as brewers in 1918 and 1922. The premises were taken over by a firm in the shoe industries during the 1920s. The former brewery was reached through an archway at 16 Lorne Road and was of two-storey red brick with slate roofs. Converted to residential use.

{1} One of the smaller late 19th century brewers in Northampton. 16 Lorne Road were given as brewers in 1918 and 1922. The premises were taken over by Cutlers (?), a firm in the shoe industry, during the 1920s. The former brewery , of two-storey red brick buildings with slate roofs, is reached through an archway under the second storey of 16 Lorne Road. This is stuates in the middle, and forms part, of a terrace of two-storey houses on the north side of Lorne Road. Form the front, 16 is in keeping with the houses on either side, with the same embellishments on the keystones over the 'house-type' door and the windows. However, it has extra width to accommodate the archway, through which runs a cobbled way and is closed off by large double wooden doors. There is an extra, although still of domestic style, window in the storey above the archway.

{2} 16 Lorne Road was renovated/converted between 2012 and 2014. Many of the details have been lost, although the top of the first storey keystone is visible at eaves level. The condition of the factory to the rear is unknown, but converted to residential use.
